Factory Floor Slab Replacement – When your business relies on large shipments of heavy material it should be expected to see a wear in your flooring. Unfortunately for this slab, the toll got to be to much under the massive amounts of weight that it began to crack. For this company, it was very important that operations would resume as quickly as possible to avoid disrupting the factory’s work flow. We were able to offer an effective solution that would repair and help prevent future damage to the area as well as accommodate the company’s need for speedy repairs. Work was to begin at 6 PM on Friday starting with the complete demo of the damaged slab. Once removed, the crew dowelled the adjacent slabs along with a double mat of reinforcing steel rebar. In order to ensure a return to service before 10 PM on Sunday we used a Rapidset engineered concrete mix using accelerators and a color admixture. The following weekend the control joints were formed and filled with Promender to protect the damage that occurs at these joints.
Crack Repair – For the crack repair we started by using compressed air to clean them out and route the cracks open. With all the loose concrete and particles removed the next step was to overfill the joint using Hi-tech Promender Flex, a flexible polyether polyol matched to the color of the concrete. Once dry the excess is shaved flush with the surface. This material will seal the crack and acts as a sort of structural “glue” for areas where the material penetrates to depths of ½” or more. This material is not only strong, but it provides approximately 12% flexibility in order to absorb the live loads of steel framed composite slab.
